Ceiling & Wall Texturing in Massillon, OH | K and K Construction
About This Service

Where Craft
Meets Surface The finish that makes everything else look right.

Most people don't notice good texture work — they just know a room feels finished. That's the point. K and K Construction's texture crews have worked on hundreds of Ohio homes, from smooth skim-coat repairs on century-old plaster walls in historic Massillon properties, to full-room knockdown finishes in new construction across Stark and Summit Counties.

Texturing isn't just cosmetic — it also conceals drywall seams, fastener dimples, and minor surface imperfections that would telegraph through paint. Paired with our drywall installation and repair service, we provide a complete interior surface solution that goes straight from raw board to paint-ready finish.

Whether you're renovating a single room, matching existing texture after a water-damage repair, or finishing an entire new build, K and K Construction delivers a consistent, professional result — no roller marks, no holiday spots, no uneven buildup.

What We Do

Texturing Services
We Provide

01

New Texture Application

Full-room ceiling and wall texture from bare drywall to finished surface.

Applied to freshly taped and mudded drywall, new texture transforms a raw interior into a finished space ready for primer and paint. K and K Construction works with homeowners, contractors, and builders to apply the correct texture for each room's purpose and aesthetic — whether that's a smooth, low-sheen finish for a master bedroom or a more tactile knockdown pattern in a family room.

02

Texture Matching & Repair

Invisible patching for water damage, holes, and drywall repairs.

This is one of the hardest skills in the trade: matching an existing texture so seamlessly that no one can find the repair. K and K Construction uses the same materials and tools — spray rigs, knockdown knives, or hand trowels — as the original application, and we feather the boundary carefully so the patch disappears. Perfect for post-water-damage repairs, ceiling patch-outs after electrical or plumbing work, or repairing accidental drywall damage.

03

Ceiling Re-Texturing

Remove popcorn ceilings or aged finishes and apply a fresh modern look.

Many Ohio homes built between the 1960s and 1990s have spray-applied popcorn or cottage cheese ceilings that show their age. K and K Construction removes these outdated finishes, skim-coats the surface smooth, and applies the new texture you choose — a flat smooth finish for a contemporary look, or a subtle knockdown for character without the dated heaviness of the original.

04

Skim Coat & Smooth Finish

Level uneven surfaces and damaged walls to a paint-ready smooth plane.

Older homes in Massillon and Canton often have plaster walls with cracks, ridges, and surface variations that show through flat paint. Skim coating applies a thin layer of joint compound across the entire surface, building a perfectly flat, smooth finish. This technique is also used to eliminate texture on walls where the previous homeowner applied an overly heavy or dated finish that the current owner wants removed.

05

Commercial Texturing

High-volume texturing for offices, retail spaces, and commercial rehabilitation.

K and K Construction handles commercial interior texturing as part of our broader commercial rehabilitation and office renovation services. We apply durable, consistent textures efficiently across large commercial spaces — coordinating with other trades and working on schedules that minimize business disruption.

06

Decorative & Accent Finishes

Venetian plaster, sand finish, and custom accent wall textures.

For homeowners who want something beyond standard textures, K and K Construction applies decorative finishes including Venetian plaster, fine sand texture, and custom trowel patterns that create distinctive accent walls or architectural feature surfaces. These finishes are particularly popular in dining rooms, entryways, and primary bedrooms where a single wall becomes the room's focal point.

Why K and K Construction

Massillon's
Interior
Experts The crew that gets texture right the first time.

Texture Styles

Finishes We Apply

K/D

Knockdown

Compound is sprayed on and then lightly flattened with a knife before drying — creating an irregular, mottled surface with subtle depth. Ohio's most popular ceiling texture style.

Most Popular
S/T

Skip Trowel

Hand-applied with a curved trowel, skipping across the surface to leave irregular raised patches. Creates an artisan, Mediterranean-influenced finish with strong visual character.

Artisan Finish
O/P

Orange Peel

Sprayed-on fine stippling that closely resembles the surface of an orange. Subtler than knockdown — often used on walls where a lighter texture is desired to complement smooth ceilings.

Wall Favorite
SK

Skim Smooth

A thin, flat coat applied over the entire surface to create a perfectly level, smooth plane. The most demanding finish to apply well — and the most striking in modern interiors.

Modern Look

Venetian Plaster

Multi-coat, hand-burnished plaster finish with a marble-like depth and subtle sheen. A premium decorative finish for feature walls, entryways, and luxury renovations.

Our Process

How We Do
It Right

Every K and K Construction texturing project follows a proven five-step process designed to protect your home, hit your timeline, and deliver a finish that lasts.

1
Estimate & Sample

We assess your surfaces and, when needed, apply small test patches so you can see and approve the texture style before committing to a full room.

2
Full Prep

Floors, furniture, and trim are fully protected. Any drywall damage, seams, or fastener pops are addressed before a single drop of compound goes up.

3
Priming

Drywall primer is applied to seal the surface and ensure even compound adhesion — skipping this step causes uneven absorption and patchy texture.

4
Texture Application

We apply, manipulate, and dry the texture in carefully controlled conditions — adjusting for Ohio's seasonal humidity to ensure a consistent result.

5
Inspection & Cleanup

Every surface is inspected under raking light to catch any inconsistencies. The space is left clean, protected, and ready for your painter.

Massillon, OH & Northeast Ohio

Serving Ohio's
Homes Since Day One

Stark County's housing stock spans nearly a century — from 1920s plaster-walled craftsmen bungalows in downtown Massillon to 2000s drywall construction in Jackson Township's newer developments. K and K Construction has worked in virtually every era of Ohio residential construction, which means we understand the specific challenges each presents: how to skim-coat over cracked plaster, how to match the heavier knockdown patterns common in 1980s–90s builds, and how to work efficiently in occupied homes without disrupting daily life.

We serve homeowners preparing for interior painting, completing whole-home remodels, repairing damage after plumbing work, or finishing new additions. Our texturing service integrates seamlessly with the rest of the K and K Construction interior team — one crew, one contact, one invoice.

Questions

Plain answers from K and K Construction — the crew that's textured hundreds of Ohio homes.

Ask Us Directly
How much does ceiling texturing cost in Massillon, Ohio?
Ceiling and wall texturing in Massillon typically ranges from $0.80–$2.50 per square foot depending on the texture style, surface condition, and whether prep work is needed. Knockdown and orange peel are on the lower end of that range; skip trowel and Venetian plaster are more labor-intensive and price higher. K and K Construction provides free written estimates — we measure your space and give you a precise number with no obligation. Contact us to schedule yours.
What's the difference between knockdown and skip trowel texture?
Knockdown texture is spray-applied and then partially flattened with a drywall knife before it dries, creating irregular raised patches with flat tops. It covers large areas quickly and consistently. Skip trowel is entirely hand-applied — the applicator drags or skips a trowel loaded with compound across the surface, leaving a more organic, irregular pattern. Skip trowel takes longer and requires more skill, but produces a distinctly artisan result that reads more upscale than spray knockdown. K and K Construction applies both — we'll show you samples so you can choose what's right for your home.
Can you match my existing texture after a ceiling repair?
Yes — texture matching is one of K and K Construction's most-requested services. After plumbing repairs, ceiling light installations, or water damage remediation, homeowners are often left with a visible drywall patch. We analyze your existing texture style, replicate the application technique, and feather the edges of the repair so the patch disappears. How completely invisible the repair looks depends on the texture style — smooth finishes are more forgiving than heavily built-up patterns — and we'll be honest with you upfront about what to expect.
Do you remove popcorn ceilings before re-texturing?
Yes. K and K Construction scrapes and removes popcorn texture before applying any new finish. In Ohio homes built before 1978, we recommend testing for asbestos before removal — we can coordinate that testing through a certified inspector. Once the old texture is removed, we skim-coat the ceiling to a smooth, level surface and then apply your chosen new texture or leave it smooth if that's your preference. Painting over or skim-coating directly over popcorn without removal produces poor results — we don't cut that corner.
How long does wall and ceiling texturing take to dry in Ohio?
Standard texture finishes are touch-dry within 4–8 hours under normal Ohio indoor conditions, but we recommend waiting 24 hours before painting to ensure the compound is fully cured through its depth. In Ohio's humid spring and summer months, we may extend that to 36–48 hours. In winter, when heated indoor air is very dry, compound can dry faster but may also crack if dried too quickly — we adjust application thickness accordingly. K and K Construction factors drying time into your project schedule so your painter can follow right behind us.
Do I need to vacate my home during texturing?
For most texturing work, vacating isn't required — but we ask that the room being textured is cleared of furniture and that HVAC vents in the work area are covered to prevent dust from spreading. Spray application produces some airborne overspray, so we seal doorways to adjacent rooms. For popcorn removal, we recommend staying out of the work area until the material is bagged and removed. K and K Construction handles all masking and prep, and cleans up thoroughly when the work is done.
Does K and K Construction also paint after texturing?
Yes. K and K Construction offers interior painting as a separate service that can be bundled with texturing for a complete surface package. Combining both under one contractor ensures the texture is properly primed before paint application — a step that's critical for preventing uneven sheen on new texture. Ask about our combined texturing and painting packages when you request your free estimate.
